Sealines, power and fibre optic cables
Coastal activities or intercontinental network termination.
Deparentis offers its support in all phases of your project. Whether it is for preliminary route survey before the installation, position control during the construction with the RPL (Route Position List) or for the safeguarding of the pipes or cables once they have been laid.
The submarine cable-laying activity requires a wide variety of competencies, involving environmental, geophysical and precision positioning studies, clustered in areas that are sometimes difficult to access or even dangerous: shallow water, wave swells, river banks, etc.
It is essential to provide the contractor with a clear picture of the situation, but also to offer our advice and experience on a strategy for the best route and the best techniques of installation.
Pre lay route clearance
The shortest route is not always the best, especially underwater.
The laying of an outtake or a cable requires prior survey of the route, from the offshore to the beach, or from one bank to the other in the case of a river. The strategy is implemented on a corridor wide enough to provide alternatives paths, and must review the seabed conditions for laying and possibly burying, anticipating the possible presence of other submerged networks, obstructions, wrecks, abandoned anchors, or outcropping rocks.
Ideally, the cable or outfall will be buried in the natural soft subsoil, which offers the best protection. However, sometimes difficult conditions such as rocky terrain can potentially expose the asset to the risk of damage from natural elements, fishing, anchoring of boats, etc.
Then, there are sometimes trade-offs to be made between alternative and longer routes, if they exist, and techniques to ensure stability and protection of the structure, such as CBM (Concrete Block Mattress) for securing pipelines or CPS (Cable Protection System) for power or fibre optic cables.
Charting & notification
A place for all, to share the seabed peacefully.
Whether it is a question of planning interventions at sea that may impact existing networks or report the existence of new facilities, it is important to notify the relevant charting authorities and organizations in charge, at the regional and international level.
Poor dissemination of information exposes us to the risk of damage to submerged installations, with costly economic consequences.
This is the reason why Deparentis is a membership of the ICPC (International Cable Protection Committee) for both its survey activities and cable monitoring services, and offers its assistance in the planning and reporting of your project.
Cable protection
We watch and protect your subsea and surface assets live, 24 hours a day.
Deparentis is the official distributor in West Africa for UltraMap AssetMonitor solutions.
AssetMonitor is a live, 24 hour, web-based monitoring of physical exclusion zones around subsea and ocean bed assets such as electricity cables, telecoms cables, and oil and gas pipelines. We monitor the behaviour of vessels in and around these zones and constantly feeds AIS vessel positioning information back to a central control hub. If the analysis shows that a vessel is exhibiting potentially damaging behaviour, our system raises an alarm and send automatic e-mails or GSM text messages for immediate action.
Of course, AssetMonitor records and stores every vessel’s, every move. That vital evidence will be available if the asset is damaged to eventually claim the liability of the shipowners or insurers.
As a preventive measure, it is also possible to measure maritime traffic prior to the installation of the infrastructure. By observing the density and direction of maritime activity, it is possible to plan the least exposed installation areas.
